An Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Pillar for Exhibitions: A Subjective Exploration
ICAT-EGVE
This paper presents an AR/VR 'pillar' — a four-sided showcase built from a pillar in a public exhibition venue — as a novel way to display immersive content in public. Visitors used tablets and mobile AR headsets to experience a cultural-heritage exhibit, 'Boatbuilders of Pangkor', combining AR videos, maps, images, and text with 360° VR of reconstructed 3D subjects and remote locations. The paper describes the prototype, a user evaluation, and directions for future work.
