Dynamic eye convergence for head-mounted displays improves user performance in virtual environments

In VR, close-up tasks like touching, grabbing, and placing objects can be surprisingly difficult in head-mounted displays because the virtual cameras do not converge the way our eyes naturally do at short distances. This paper shows that dynamically adjusting eye convergence in HMDs to match the task improves user performance in virtual environments. It offers evidence that adapting the display to how the eyes behave makes near-field VR interaction more effective.
