Effects of Manipulating Physiological Feedback in Immersive Virtual Environments

Games increasingly show players their own physiological signals, but how much does that shape the experience? In a single-user immersive environment, this study manipulated the heart-rate feedback shown to participants. Slightly faster or slower real-time feedback altered participants' emotions more than accurate feedback did — even though the manipulation did not change their actual physiological signals.
