Egocentric space-distorting visualizations for rapid environment exploration in mobile mixed reality

Exploring an unfamiliar area through a small mobile display is slow, and off-screen or occluded points of interest are hard to show. This work designs space-distorting visualisations — long studied in information visualisation but, the authors note, not previously applied to mixed reality — that bend the view so distant or hidden points can be surveyed in context. Informal user feedback guided several design iterations, and the authors offer their results to inspire further work on space-distorting visualisation in AR.
