Head-turning approach to eye-tracking in immersive virtual environments

Reliable, unobtrusive eye tracking is still hard in immersive VR, especially with head-mounted displays and users moving freely. This work provides experimental evidence that, when users are actively interacting with the environment, gaze direction can be safely approximated by their head rotation. It discusses where this head-turning proxy applies and how it might be extended.
