Let your fingers do the walking: A unified approach for efficient short-, medium-, and long-distance travel in VR

Travel interfaces in VR must trade off speed against precision, and most support only one metaphor suited to a single range of distances. This paper presents a unified framework with three multi-touch techniques — one each for short, medium, and long distances — tied together by a 'fingers-as-legs' metaphor on a single device. In an experiment comparing it with a gamepad, the gamepad was more time-efficient overall, but task quality was similar and the finger-based approach allowed faster switching between travel modes.
